Building the Daylight

For the past several years, I spent the weekends in my garage building a replica of the Southern Pacific GS-4 Daylight in 1-1/2" scale.  During this time I have learned a lot about machining, locomotives and all the sub-systems required to have a properly running engine.  I have been taking pictures during construction and thought that I would share them with those interested.  I'm not going to go into detail about how I machined things or how I did this or that.  Instead, I thought that I would show some pictures and give a brief explanation of what was done.

My blogs are organized in chronological order and not by subject matter.  I may have a couple sections on the same thing due to modifications or something.  I'll try to keep this updated every few months until done, so enjoy...

Here's pictures of the engine just before I steam her up for the first time.

And here it is just before the first steam up.
